4zero birthday bash – The Story Part 1

“Rites of Passage

We were with each other, if not for each other, facing the challenges of puberty all those years ago. Thrown together by fate and far from home, we struggled into womanhood.

Tears, fears, anxiety and joy, the angst of teenage-hood,
physical development, emotional development, the paranormal,
relationships, flirtations, heartbreaks,
freshie sister, college sister, adik angkat, correspondence,
concerts, serving, washing, house cleaning, midnight snacks, outings....
Those were the first steps that shaped us into what we are today.

Now that we reach another milestone in our lives, we are about to face a slew of emotions and changes that again will shape our next phase. What better way to charge towards it all in the company of life-long friends that have been through it all together before.

So, come celebrate our BIG FOUR-ZERO this year in the name of friendship and sisterhood (for that is what we are to each other). Sisters love, sisters fight, sisters bitch but most of all sisters care - no matter the years or the distance, the frequency we get in touch with each other, no matter what ever happened in between them.

Let's rendezvous y'all!”
Aaaahhh…when I received the above touching invitation aptly penned by one of the committee girls, Rozana Sani, I actually cried! How the words brought back those invaluable memories no word can describe!

So it was last Saturday, the 2nd of May 2009, that approximately 60 of us from the SPM 86 batch got together in Pullman Putrajaya Lakeside to commemorate our 40th birthday! Alhamdulillah… the long awaited event was here at last!!!
I went there with Dilla who volunteered to be the ibu’ supir and Rosz who joined us at the Ayer Keroh toll. Suffice to say, with the three kaki ketawa in the car, it was a mini earth quake! Haiyo… Then the moment we arrived at the parking space, we bumped into Farahnaz and Azee! So what else? The drama began!;-) I think since there were not many guests around, it seemed like the whole hotel staff were on the guard for us the wanita-wanita kecoh dan heboh! As someone mentioned, the moment she arrived at the lobby, she need not say anything. One staff approached her and asked if she was looking for the hall “yang ramai perempuan tu ya?”- unquote! Aiyo!! Not sure to feel embarrassed, or to feel proud?! Heh heh

After Zohor, we started the registration. The committee members or their nama manja - ‘PGK’ ie Pompuan Gila Kuasa heh heh heh were all there making sure of the final arrangements. Thanks a million, you gals!! Shahnaz, the forever composed and calm prefect, was STILL the same composed and calm ‘prefect’ who took charge of the registration! Once one had registered, there was a solo photo session awaiting! Wahhh….ada specially invited ‘professional’ photographer!! Terasa macam photo shoot for magazine! Oh…merasa jugak jadi model semuanya!!! He he.. Posing pulak ala-ala that girl with that curly long hair in Datuk Lat’s Kampung Boy comics!!! Ingat tak??? Alaa….yang posing kat tingkap ghumah Peghak tuuuu???? Haaa…that was how each and everyone of us had to pose!!!! Phuiyooo….not that easy, babe!!
As we registered and posed, more and more friends came and the sound (read: noise) of a big bunch of excited women greeting one another and shrieking TOGETHER became more and more deafening!! Sorry hotel folks! You sure regret accepting us in the first place, hah??? Anyway, the ever so funny and witty emcees of the day (eh, in fact not only for the day…jawatan sampai pencen lah ya?), Sherif and Ana Sani were quick to control the situation (ye lah, before another earth quake happened!) and called for the noise to be transported to the exclusive hall instead!

The event started with the recitation of Al-Fatihah for our beloved Maria Razak who was the first amongst us to be called home by the Almighty last year. Sedihnya. That’s why Lia, arwah’s best friend just couldn’t bring herself to attend the reunion. She just couldn’t do it because their friendship grew beyond the schooling years, right up to the last few days of arwah’s short life. Understood.
Then we proceeded with the singing of the school song – oh, full of energy, enthusiasm and pride, as always! Felt like we were in the school hall for our weekly assembly! Thanks to Anna Mail’s hubby who volunteered (or was it forced/bribed by his wife???;-)) to play that memorable song on the piano and recorded it to accompany our singing!
We started the makan-makan as we mingled around and tried to catch up with one another. More laughter, more shrieking, more teary eyes, more photo taking! I was so surprised to be greeted with a lot of “confessions of the blogaholics(!?)” like “I read your blog, tau! Staff I, adik-beradik I pun baca!” and “I selaaaaaalu baca about your family in your blog!” then followed by “Why tak boleh masuk your blog lagi? Ada orang ‘PHD’ ke? Invite lah I..” Ohhh…sungguh malu, patik!! Yeeaaah right, dah terkikik-kikik dan terheheh-heheh kat blog, NOW only terasa malu????? H-e-l-l-oooo??? Honestly, I didn’t realize that the number of readers from my school batch is actually more than what I knew! Tu lah, next time baca blog kengkawan, bagi salam!!! ;-) How should I know laaahhhh??? So now how? Perlukah ada AFmasuk? Opocot!!;-)
Anyway, as we filled our tummy with food oh glorious food and filled the room with thunderous laughter and busy bees’ buzzzz here and there, the emcees called upon everyone to parade on stage for a short updates, starting with the January ‘babies’ sampailah ke December ‘babies’. Sounds so cute, kan?! When we walked down the stage, we were given a goodie bag each and a cutie cupcake each specially ordered from who else, but our dear makcik blogger club member – Zaitgha – yay!! Cap clap clap! The cake was personalized, with our names written on that edible piece of ‘paper’ neatly tagged on each of them! Beautiful!! Zai, I was so proud when my friends mentioned “Cupcake ni kawan Tati yang buat, tau! Cantik, kan?” Wah…everyone was so impressed with your cake, Zai! But the best part was when someone approached me after one hour or so, and told me “Tati, pandainya you buat cake ni…” I BEG YOUR PARDON??? Ha ha ha…that’s how rumours work, kan you all? Bila cerita dah pusing sana sini, last-last jadi cerita lain!!! Wahh…kalau I lah yang buat cake tu, that will be THE DAY!!!;-)

After all the giant babies finished the parading session, we had to find that friend whose cupcake was given to us, and vice-versa. Again, kecohnya macam ada 600 orang, ok? When everybody got the cupcake with her name on it, then we lit the little candle and sang Happy Birthday to ourselves!!! Yay…it was fun and oh, meriah, at the same time, emotional!!! Aaahhh…I like! We were supposed to eat the cake then, but since the cake was soooo pretty, semorang sayang nak makan, and took some time to just admire the cake before reluctantly ate it!!! Bravo lah Zai!!!

Ok, lah… may I continue later? Yes I may. Thank you for bearing with my blabber, you all. We’ll chat later, ok? Ni terpaksa update dulu sebab manyak takuuuuut kena lecture by those ‘penunggu’!!! Heh heh;-)
